Abuse of Power

The government is so out of control. It is so bloated and infested with fraud and deceit and corruption and abuse of power.
— American songwriter/composer Ted Nugent

MAYPAJO, Caloocan City — Yesterday was Love Day and to commemorate this special day dedicated to Saint Valentine, let me greet my critics and detractors a warm welcome and a hunormous hug.

MANY of our officials often abuse their power and authority, according to House assistant minority leader Arlene Brosas, noting the various incidents of government people blatantly disobeying the law by using the EDSA Busway that has been specifically designated for the use of passenger buses on which ordinary citizens, particularly the workers, ride to reach their destination or workplace.
In Pilipino, the Makabayan party-list lawmaker expressed her emotions: “Nakakagalit makita ang ilang government official at personalidad na inaabuso ang kanilang kapangyarihan—sumisingit sa busway at iniinsulto pa ang mga traffic enforcer na nagsisikap ipatupad ang batas.”
Going viral in social media, a police convoy passed through the exclusive busway and shamelessly introduced themselves when they were stopped by traffic enforcers that they were members of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and even name-dropped Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Lieutenant General Rommel Marbil.
In another incident, a black Toyota Hi-Ace van and Chevrolet Suburban illegally used a blinker and likewise passed through the busway but were stopped by operatives of the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT).
However, it tried to elude the SAICT enforcers but eventually returned to get their traffic citation ticket. It was learned that the violators were driver/employees of former senator Emmanuel 'Manny' Pacquiao.
Just recently, the son of senator Raffy Tulfo,
Quezon City District II representative Ralph Tulfo, likewise flaunted the law by also passing through the EDSA busway. One can recall that it was Sen. Tulfo who castigated the relative if another senator who illegally passed through the busway.
According to Brosas, if there is somebody who should first obey traffic regulations, they are the people in government. But unfortunately, there are still many of them who think they are immune to arrest and that is why they throw their weight around as if their big as their bosses who in actuality are public servants mandated only by the people.
The lady Solon stressed: “This is unacceptable. Halos wala na ngang espasyo for mass public transportation, may mga naghahari-harian pa sa Daan. Whether you’re a public official or famous personality, you should not use your position for personal convenience. Wag sanang pa-importante. Wala dapat special treatment.”
We couldn't agree more with the good congresswoman's pronouncement. Just like what my late mentor, the venerable Alfredo Siojo Lim, once conveyed in his slogan, "The Law Applies To All, Otherwise, None At All!"
Well said, I guess, but never taken seriously by many.
