Electric power distribution company Meralco has issued a warning to the public regarding a fraudulent Facebook post falsely claiming a bill discount.

"‘Wag maniwala sa mga naglipanang post na maaari kang magbayad ng Meralco bill sa Facebook para makakuha ng discount!" Meralco spokesperson and Vice President for Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga wrote on social media.

"Ito po ay hindi totoo; hindi tumatanggap ng bayad ang Meralco sa ano mang social media accounts," he added.

The company executive was responding to a Facebook post that falsely claimed a 40 percent discount on Meralco bills.

Zaldarriaga reminded the public to make payments only through Meralco's official payment channels, including its partner banks and select mobile wallets.
