Pormal na hiniling ni Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III kay Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero na simulan na ang impeachment trial ni Bise Presidente Sara Duterte.

Sa isang sulat na ipinadala kay Escudero noong Peb. 14, idiniin ng lider ng oposisyon sa Senado na ang agarang aksyon sa impeachment case na isinampa ng Mababang Kapulungan ay ipinag-uutos sa Senado ng Konstitusyon.

“In case the verified complaint or resolution of impeachment is filed by at least one-third of all the Members of the House of Representatives, the same shall constitute the Articles of Impeachment, the trial by the Senate shall forthwith proceed.”

Ito, ayon kay Pimentel, ang malinaw na kasaad sa Section 3 (4), Article XI ng 1987 Constitution.

Idiniin niya na ang salitang “forthwith” ay nangangahulugang agaran ang dapat na aksyon sa nasabing impeachment complaint.

“The above elaboration affirms that it is the Senate’s duty to act on the impeachment cse of Vice President Sara Duterte ‘without any delay’ or ‘without interval of time’. I repeat that this is the Senate’s DUTY,” dagdag pa ni Pimentel.

Hindi pa inaksyonan ng Senado ang isinampang reklamo laban kay Duterte simula nang i-akyat ito ng Kamara.

Hindi rin ito nai-sama sa order of business ng huling sesyon ng Senado bago ito mag-recess para sa halalan.

Ayon kay Escudero sisimulan nila ang pag-aksyon sa impeachment case sa muling pagbubukas ng sesyon sa Hunyo, 2025.

Dalawang magkasalungat na kaso na ang inihain sa Korte Suprema ng dalawang grupo ng nagpepetisyon tungkol sa pagpigil o agarang pagdinig ng impeachment case laban kay Duterte.
