The Quiapo Church has issued reminders for devotees about the do's and don'ts during the conduct of the upcoming Traslacion, the first to be held in three years since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Millions of devotees are expected to take part in the Traslacion or the procession of the Black Nazarene on January 9.
With the return of the traditional procession, organizers asked participants to refrain from climbing the carriage (andas) of the Black Nazarene.
Instead, devotees can throw their handkerchiefs and towels which will be wiped for them by members of the Hijos del Nazareno, who are on the carriage.
Carrying the lever (pingga) and pulling the rope are allowed but should be done with order and caution, organizers said.
The participants are also urged to avoid pushing other participants during the procession.
They are advised to bring transparent bags to allow for easy inspection and not to bring too many belongings.
Organizers said devotees should already have their meals before the start of Traslacion so they would have enough strength to participate in the procession.
Children and those with illnesses are advised to stay on the side of the streets to ensure their safety.
The procession will start from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta to the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene on Quezon Boulevard in Manila.
The religious activity is a re-enactment of the "solemn transfer" of the Black Nazarene's replica image from Intramuros to Quiapo Church.
Pious believers claim that physically touching the image can bring miracles and cure diseases.
