The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group and video-sharing network Tiktok have forged an agreement for closer cooperation in boosting efforts against online scams and other types of cybercrimes.
PNP-ACG officer-in-charge Colonel Rommel Batangan led police officials in discussing the program in a recent meeting at Camp Crame, Quezon City.
The two organizations agreed on addressing operational challenges and explored collaborative strategies to stop online threats, including scams and other forms of cybercrime.
Batangan noted that there has been an increase in the misuse of Tiktok by cybercriminals. He hoped the collaboration would yield to more arrest of individuals exploiting the dark side of technology.
“TikTok is one of the most widely used social media platforms today. Unfortunately, cybercriminals have also exploited this platform for scamming activities,” said Batangan.
Elizabet Potuijt, Tiktok’s Law Enforcement Outreach Manager for Southeast Asai, welcomed the move as her organization declared its commitment to support the PNP initiative.
Tiktok ahs offered training sessions for the PNP-ACG investigation team.
“We aim for our law enforcement partners to have a clear understanding of our operating pro cedures and legal requirements,” said Potuijt.
She added: “This collaboration allows us to proactively address issues and emerging threats to ensure the safety of our users and communities.”
