Mayor Lacuna -Pangan orders updated list of senior citizens in Manila

Noting that the official list of senior citizens in Manila may no longer be accurate, Mayor Honey Lacuna Pangan has ordered the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs to come up with an updated list that will be the basis of the distribution of financial assistance to the elderly.
Lacuna-Pangan noted that the current list may contain names of senior citizens who have transferred residences or are already dead.4
On the other hand, Lacuna-Pangan said there is also the possibility that persons who have just reached 60 years old are still excluded in the current list.
Lacuna-Pangan assured Manila’s elderly folk that their names will be included in the new list.
Barangay officials have been asked to cooperate in revising the list of seniors to make it more accurate. They were asked to attend meetings called for the purpose of making sure that the listing process will be followed.
OSCA chief Elinor Jacinto said barangay chairmen and treasurers will be in the forefront of the listing process.
She explained tnat said barangay officials are tasked to assist the city government in the distribution of cash aids and allowances to qualified senior citizens in Manila.
The grant of monthly PHP 500 monthly allowance is authorized by the city government social amelioration package for senior citizens. There are currently 179,000 beneficiaries of the program.
