Diabetes drug Ozempic has continued to gain popularity in the United States and other countries that counterfeit versions have been discovered by the US Food and Drug Administration.

High demand for the Danish Novo Nordisk injectable has been noted since it was introduced in the pharmaceutical market but not because because of its anti-diabetes formula.

Celebrities and social media influencers have endorsed Ozempic as not only a diabetes cure but more as an anti-obesity drug.

Even world’s richest Elon Musk admitted he had been taking Wegovy, which contains an active ingredient of Ozempic to keep fit.

The US FDA reported recently that several thousands of apparent bogus Ozempic one milligram injectables have been seized.

It is feared that many more have slipped the recent seizure operations and have already been distributed to the market.

Novo Nordisk and the FDA have started testing the confiscated products but have yet to inform the public about the identity, efficacy and safety of the bogus Ozempic.

Approved for diabetes treatment in 2017, Ozempic contains semaglutide that is effective in treating obesity. Another drug, known as Wegovy, was later introduced to the market as containing a higher dose of semaglutide.

Both Ozempic and Wegovy have become very popular among weight watchers who noted the drugs’ potent effect kn their bid to remain fit and trim.
