After 15 years, execution by firing squad will be carried out in the United States, with a senior citizens who murdered his ex-girlfriend’s parents choosing to be the first to get it.

On March 7, 67-year-old Brad Simon will be executed at a prison in Columbia in South Carolina for the murders of David and Glady’s Larke in 2001.

The victims were beaten to death with a baseball bat.

Execution by firing squad has been abandoned in the US in 2010.

However, Sigmon was made to choose from three options - lethal injection, electric chair and firing squad for the manner by which he will be executed.

Gerald “Bo” King, one of his lawyers, disclosed that his client chose the firing squad , claiming that he was forced to make the decision after being placed in an “impossible” position.

In a statement, King said: “Unless he elected lethal injection or the firing squad, he would die in South Carolina’s ancient electric chari, which would burn and cook him alive.”

“But the alternative is just as monstrous. If he chose lethal injection, he risked the prolonged death suffered by all three of the men South Carolina has executed since September,” explained King.

If Sigmon is executed, he will be the first death convicted to die by firing squad in South Carolina.

The United States witnessed its last firing squad execution in 2010 in Utah.

In 1996 and 1977, the state executed two convicts, making the number of firing squad execution to three.
