Septuagenarian mom killed by own son during heated argument

Resenting being scolded by his 74-year-old mother, a 24-year old man struck her in the head, causing her instantaneous death.
Police said the incident happened in Sitio Banga-an, Dinwende West, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur on Friday (December 20) afternoon.
Police Capt. Alden Isang, chief of police of Cervantes town, identified the fatality as Adelina B. Bayawa, a widow.
Initial police investigation showed that at around 4 pm at the family residence Bayawa reprimanded his son, Rackson B. Bayawa for cutting the coffee plants she planted in their backyard.
A heated argument between the suspect and his mother ensued until Rackson took a piece of firewood and struck his mother with it.
The victim died on the spot.
The suspect lef the body of his mother at the crime scene.
At around 5 pm, the suspect’s brother discovered their mother’s lifeless body lying on the ground with blood oozing from her head.
He reported the incident to the police who immediately sought the suspect.
The suspect voluntarily surrendered to police and turned over the murder weapon.
Police filed a case of parricide against the suspect.
