The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) believes that the arrest of suspected Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) ‘big boss’ Lyu Dong is a huge step toward in the government’s initiative to put an end and dismantle the illegal POGO hubs operating in the country.
According to PAOCC spokesperson Winston Casio, Lyu, who is also known as Boss Boga, Boss Apao and Boss Bahaw, was nabbed at a residential subdivision in Laguna. However, despite Lyu’s arrest, Casio opined that “as long as the financiers and people actually running the POGOs (are not located and apprehended), these will not be enough if … the big bosses (are not made) accountable (for their crimes).
Still, he enthused that Lyu’s apprehension in Laguna is proof that the government and the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is consistent in their commitment to finish the problems caused by illegal POGOs and the different crimes that these are committing in the Philippines.
Even then, Casio disclosed that since Lyu is one of the first POGO bosses in the country, the PAOCC remains hopeful that the suspect will be able provide further leads into the operation of illegal POGOs.
“Sa palagay namin . . . (siya) ay makakapagbigay ng sapat na impormasyon at ebidensya kung sino ba tumulong sa kanila sa pagpapatayo (ng POGO sa Pilipinas). Sino ba ang mga nagkanlong sa kanila noong mga nakaraang panahon? Maaaring may maituro ito sa mga protector. Sana meron nga,” he cited.
