The case of the death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne in Argentina will remain under police investigation until it is fully concluded to be triggered by accident or suicide.

Payne, 31, had fatal injuries when his body was found in the courtyard of the Casa Sur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on Wednesday (October 16). He was reported to have fallen from the hotel’s balcony which is three floors up.

Prior to the reported fall, hotel emergency services were summoned after it was reported that a man was seen acting erratically inside the establishment.

Witnesses believe that the man, that turned out to be Payne, could have been under the influence of drugs or liquor.

Alberto Crescenti, director of Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services, told the media that Payne could have fallen 13 to 14 meters from the balcony. He described to ABC News that the injuries suffered by the victim were “very serious” and “incompatible with life.”

Payne was an original member of One Direction and was reportedly the most popular among group members as its vocalist. The group also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tominson.

As the band’s popularity waned a little and went into hiatus starting 2015, Payne continued with a solo career and released the song “Strip That Down” and “Teardrops”.

Among the One Direction songs that went high on the charts were “Night Changes”; “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Kiss You”, among others.

In 2023, the popular singer shared a YouTube video where he disclosed having speng 100 days at a rehabilitation facility in Louisiana. He claimed then that he had been sober for six months following his rehab.

Payne has a son, Bear, whom he shared with fellow singer Cheryl Cole.
